Total Chaos on Opening Day in the OJMFLL

Week 1 Review, Week 2 Preview.

The League could not have asked for a better day for Opening Day on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Budd Park in Kitchener.

The first game of the day pitted the 2018 league runners-up K-W United against the newcomers Milton Chaos. Milton Chaos jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and did not look back on their way to their first ever OJMFLL victory by the score of 12-8.

Jackson Webster led the Milton Chaos with 3 Goals and 4 helpers, while Mitch Taylor led KW United with 3 Goals of his own.

The second game saw the return of the Hamilton Bengals (after a year off) face-off against the 2019 League Champions Orangeville Generals. Hamilton looked solid in the first frame, taking a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of play only to see the Gennies claw their way back with 3 unanswered goals in the second quarter to tie the game going into half time. The Gennies kept their momentum rolling for the remainder of the game on way to a 10-6 victory

Orangeville had 9 different scorers in the game with Brody Caskenette being the only multiple goal scorer with 2 goals and 1 assist. Michael Grace and Jonah Silverthorne each netted two goals for the Bengals.

It was a quick turn-around for the Milton Chaos as they faced the perennial powerhouse Oshawa Blue Knights squad in the third game of the day. A near epic battle saw the upstart Chaos and the oldest franchise in the OJMFLL Blue Knights knotted at 6 apiece. Milton poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Blue Knight 9-1 on way to their second victory of the day by a final of 15-7.

Milton was led by Jackson Webster with 4G and 2A, Travis Reibot with 3G and 2A and Julian Siragusa with 3G. Parker Pipher led the OBK squad with 2G and 3A.

It was a rematch of the 2018 Championship game for the fourth game of the day as the Orangeville Generals squared off against KW United. Orangeville took a 1 goal lead by the score of 5-4 into halftime and once again kept their opponents on their heels in the second half as they came out on top with a 13-6 victory and a 2-0 record on the day.

Brody Caskenette led the Gennies with 4G, and Devon Dunkerley wasn’t far behind by netting 3 himself. Ethan Warden led the United squad in this game with 3 goals and 3 helpers in a losing effort.

It was all Oshawa in the final game of the day as they handed the Hamilton Bengals their second loss of the day by the score of 16-3.

OBK was led by Parker Pipher (4G, 8A), Quin Hyland (5G, 3A), and Ben Smellie (4G). The Hamilton Bengals goals came by way of Parker Johnston, Robbie Watkins, and Cooper Day-Allison.

The league returns to Budd Park for Week 2 action on Sunday, September 15, 2019 with another full slate of 5 games starting at 9:00am. The KW United squad takes on the Hamilton Bengals as both teams are looking to get into the win column in this one.

At 10:30am we will see the first match-up of the season between the Orangeville Generals and the Oshawa Blue Knights.

Milton looks to continue their winning ways as the face the Hamilton Bengals at 12:00pm, followed by KW vs OBK at 1:30pm, and what looks like another great match-up to wrap up the day as Orangeville tries to restore order against the Milton Chaos at 3:00pm.
